4 years in German politics

They say a week is a long time in politics, let alone four years. This is how the political landscape of Germany changed between the federal elections held in 2021 and in 2025. In 2025, the centre-left party SPD, lost its dominance in most of the regions it won in 2021, with very few exceptions. The centre-right CDU and the far-right AfD gained substantial ground over the SPD, with the Left party winning some of the districts in Berlin in the federal elections held last month.
